A big buttressed cypress anchors the right side with a vine climbing the trunk, Spanish moss hangs off the overhanging branches, cypress knees break the surface of still water, and a blue-grey treeline fades into a pale sky across the far bank. It is a quiet painting — the whole thing is built on that flat green water. Hand-painted, not a print: the brushwork stands up off the canvas and the weave shows through the thinner passages. The canvas is 16 by 20 inches; in its gold-finished wood frame it measures roughly 18 by 22. Condition is good and honest for its age. The canvas is clean and sound with no tears, holes, or flaking paint. The gold frame finish carries fine craquelure throughout and a few small paint losses and white specks along the top and lower rails — normal age wear on a frame this old, and it reads as character rather than damage.
